This ministry seeks to serve families by providing faith-developing, age-appropriate programming for children ages newborn through grade 5 during the Sunday morning services of Valleyview Bible Church.
Leader: Maureen Lefebvre
Description: On Sunday mornings, three program areas serve the needs of the various ages of children. Nursery (newborn to age 2); Faith Discovery (age 3 and 4); Faith Quest (Kindergarten – grade 5).
Purpose: Our desire is to teach children about God's character, guide them to a saving faith in Jesus Christ, and help them to lead lives that will show God's love to others as their relationship with Him deepens.
This ministry seeks to serve: The families of children ages birth to grade 5.
Ways to Participate: Allow your children to participate in the program for his/her age group on Sunday mornings – join them and watch if you’d like.
Ways to Serve: We have opportunities in all the age groups for teachers, teacher helpers, bakers, gathering time leaders, prayer partners, connection partners (sending birthday cards and “we missed you” cards), home visitation partners, musicians, crafters. You can step in at any time; for any duration. Inquire about taking a ‘test-drive’ serving in an entry-level role that interests you and makes use of your gifts and skills.
Entry Level: Experienced teachers can begin right away teaching. Those with no prior teaching experience would do well to team up with an existing teacher for a period of time. At this time teaching shifts are once a month for all programs. Other areas of service can begin immediately with proper instruction.
- Who is eligible? We are looking for born-again believers with a commitment to children. Teachers must be believers of at least two years. A RCMP security check is required for all (contact Maureen for a form and instructions).
Leading Level: Children’s Ministry Coordinator (research and plan programs; recruit teachers; write lessons as needed; organize teaching schedules; keep in contact with teachers and parents through weekly email; purchase supplies and resources; manage budget; fill teachers lesson totes; assume positions as outlined above if needed).
- Who is eligible? As above at entry level, plus a willingness to commit at least 2-4 hours/week of personal time to the ministry as well as teaching if needed. Basic computer knowledge is a must. Organization and communication skills are an asset.
Where to begin: A meeting with the Children’s Ministry coordinator to learn the philosophy, purpose and direction of our Faith Adventure children’s program would be a good starting point. The best way to begin in Children’s Ministry is to shadow a class for a few weeks. This will give a sense of what goes on and a chance to see where you would be best able to serve. Inquire about taking a ‘test-drive’ serving in an entry-level role that interests you and makes use of your gifts and skills.
